Perennial Garden Plants When to mulch a new perennial garden?
I recently planted a new perennial garden. Many of the plants were still dormant when I planted them, although a few were beginning to sprout. I know that it's healthy to mulch flower beds, and I plan to use recycled wood chip mulch to do it, but I'm not sure about how safe it is to do this when many of the plants are still dormant. I'm finding conflicting information - some places say to do it right away, others say to place mulch around the plants, but not cover the plants. The problem is that although I know the basic vicinity that I planted each plant, I don't remember the exact placement, so I'm concerned that the plants that haven't sprouted yet might not sprout at all if I mulch over them. But at the same time, I've read that it's much healthier for them to be mulched right away. What should I do?
Mulch serves the following purposes:
Preserves soil moisture.
Keeps weed seeds from sprouting.
It will not kill existing weeds. It will not keep down perennial weeds (ones that have roots hiding in your soil).
You should weed out any weeds that appear before you mulch.
There should be no problem putting a light mulch (1" or so) over most perennial plants. In any case, you should not snug a thick mulch (3-4") up to the stems of perennials (or shrubs and trees for that matter).
Make sure that the soil is not dry when you mulch or you will be keeping rain and watering away from the plants.
If some of your perennials are very small, you should leave that area of your garden unmulched until they sprout up which they should do very soon.

Perennial Gardening How can you tell the difference between a weed & a perennial coming up?
I started gardening last spring for the first time & by summer my garden was gorgeous. I planted several perennials but, a small few did not come up. I was hoping that maybe this year they would but, I'm not sure what might be a weed or one of my perennials coming up. Is there any way of telling before they fully bloom? Any help would be appreciated- thank you.
You could study photos of your perennial's leaves. After awhile, you'll learn to tell the weeds apart for your plants.

Are ants necessarily bad for my perennial garden?
I planted about 160 new perennials this year and seem to have a lot of ants. I invaded a space never used before and did all the proper soil prep et cetera. Just want to know if I should be concerned about them? They are all kinds, little, big, red, black you get the idea.
No, ants aren't bad. They are probably attracted to plants that have aphids. Aphids aren't good, though. If you get rid of aphids, it is likely that the ants will settle down, too.

James Cotton - The Creeper
How can I not sound Creepy?
So, there's this girl that I have a thing for, and the only hint she's given to say she likes me is, "I think I'm falling for you." we don't see each other at school a lot, but we talk over texting every couple days. We didn't talk at school today, but I saw her and she looked amazing. I wanna text her and say you looked great today, but I don't wanna sound like a stalker/creeper. How can I say this without sounding like a stalker?
* Your not a stalker creeper by telling a girl she's the best thing that ever walked the earth. Just tell her how you feel about her. If you don't text her she will think you don't like her. Allot of the questions on this site are
about why didn't he text me back. So get to boy !
Garden Plants And Flowers Do you like to work in your garden planting flowers and digging in the dirt?
Do you have a vegetable garden also? I love going to Home Depot and looking at all the plants. So much to pick from!
Yes, I work in my flower garden almost every day when it is cool, moving flowers, planting more flowers, mixing them up so they are pretty. We used to have a vegetable garden and grew everything in it, but the trees behind and around us have grown up, so we do not get enough sunlight on a garden now to grow much of anything. I think I may try it again next year, though, to see if I can at least grow some green beans, lettuce, and tomatoes. I love digging in the dirt. I have never planted anything that died.
Those hanging tomato things are bad because the birds peck them to death when they see them hanging up like that.

Which plants or flowers repel squirrels and birds from a vegetable garden?
I would like to plant a garden this year and would like to know which plants or flowers repel squirrels and birds from a vegetable garden
I don't know much about gardening but my grandma would put moth balls in her garden to repel rodents. She'd also plant marigolds between her tomato plants to repel something. I don't recall what they were suppose to repel though. I bought this stuff from a store that was a rodent repellent you sprinkle down. I was using it for squirrels in our attic and it worked. Check what your local garden store has that's a rodent repellent.
I actually Stewie say it not too long ago on Family Guy. No luck on dictionary.com
Stewie: Good evening. I am playing the role of Jesus. A man once portrayed on the big screen by Jeffrey Hunter. You may remember him as the actor who was replaced by William Shatner on Star Trek. Apparently Mr. Hunter was good enough to die for our sins but not quite up to the task of seducing green women. Anyhoo, the perennial dictum is to spread goodwill towards all men. The irony of course is that this is contrary to our nature. So why do we do it? Because we are being watched! And so we unselfishly think of others, assured that our good behavior will be rewarded with love and plutonium.
Perrenial means present at all seasons of the year or continuing without interruption.
Dictum means a formal statement or pronouncement of a principle.
Stewie is saying, the statement (dictum) that is always (perrenial) heard at the end of a Christmas pagent, would be something about spreading godwill toward men. But spreading goodwill is the opposite of man's nature and we only do it because we will be rewarded with love and plutonium.
