Perennial Will Foxglove really act like a perennial if planted?
I've been gardening for many many years now and I have included Foxgloves in my container schemes a few times over the years. Now i'm coming to the point in my life where I want to have a more permanent garden.I read somewhere that even tho it is a biennial that if you plant Foxglove in the ground it will reseed itself and act like a perennial.Has anyone tried this and what were your results?
An easy way to make foxglove a "perennial" per say is to plant it two years in a row. Then you will always have one year of blooms, and when that group rests the next year, the other group will bloom. Just keep adding to this turnover and pretty soon you'll have them blooming every year.
What Perennial is best for my garden (deck decorated with window boxes and pots)?
I'm looking to plant a perennial or two but it will have to be in a pot or some type of container because we only have a deck. Also, if its anything that comes inside in the winter it has to be safe for animals.
For window boxes and pots, annuals always seem to do best. You can plant new types each spring/summer. If you will use water crystals mixed into the potting soil, you will not have to water so often. Read the directions.
Perennial Red i have a perennial that i bought and i cant figure out what it is. it is really short almost like ground cover?
it is really short almost like ground cover. it has green leaves with a dark red almost purple inside. the leaves look like there in the shape of a heart.
Did you want a ground cover? What was the purpose of buying? Ivy is a perennial but, so is a Sequoia. How does one answer a question such as this?

Little red ants in the dirt?
Are these ok to have, or not? In the dirt where I have flowering annual vines and some perennial flowers, there are lots of little red ants if I dig around. If they're harmful which organic natural stuff gets rid of them?

Trying to find a way to spruce up my tiny living quarters, and any suggestions of plants you've had luck with would be appreciated. I realize the last 3 may not all be possible.
African Violets, Saintpaulia, don't need direct sunlight, and will bloom repeatedly with fairly low light levels. They're also perennial and potted plants, with a mix of flower colours, pinks, blues etc.
They don't have fragrant flowers though! So fail on this category of your interests.
You could also try a Spathiphyllum or peace lily, which will thrive in low to medium light: they flower better with medium light levels - so this will partly depend on what artificial light you have, and how strong it is. White flowered, turning to green is typical for these plants, although their whiteness is very showy. Sweet Paco is a fragrant version of this plant.
So, spring is here...the weather has been relatively warm with very few below zero evenings. All of my perennials have begun to come alive for another year. However, my two fragrant bouquet hosta's appear to be dead. All there is to them is a small brown stick...thats it. Are they dead? If so, what could have happen? Is there any way to save them...I just planted them last summer and when I did they were very small.
Many thanks
My hostas just came out of the ground yesterday. At my mom's house they have been out of the ground for 2 weeks. I thought mine were dead, but they just popped up to my suprise. Be patient and keep the weed eater away from the areas. Sure they'll come up soon.
