Harvesting sunflower seeds at the moby homestead
Growing sunflowers, from seed to eating the seeds: how long for most varieties?
I've looked at a lot of web sites and they all indicate how long it takes for the flower to appear after they are planted. They all say to harvest the heads for seeds when they reach a certain stage of ripeness or at a certain time of the season.
But they all seem to leave out the time between when the flower appears and when it is ready to harvest!
So, for some of the most popular varieties, how many days from planting to harvest? Thanks!
The reason they do not state the time is that is varies according to your climate. Here in Florida mine took about 6 weeks from sowing to blooming, it will take a bit longer for the seeds to ripen. In UK it will take all summer.

Seeds Exotic I bought some seeds that came from an exotic 'dwarf palm' tree. It took a long time to germinate but now it is?
about 2' tall from top of pot to top of tallest frond. I am about to bring it in, I'm in zone 5, and have a few questions. I do not remember the species. I can't find any pictures or info on the net about this plant. It does not resemble any dwarf palm on care sites. The fronds are much narrower than most pictured. Also, the roots from the stem to the pot are exposed, somewhat like a cypress tree. The crown is somewhat cylindrical but riding on the exposed roots.
It really took off this summer, growing from a small plant to to the one stated above. It was watered twice daily and received full sun for 12 hours+.
It is in an 8" pot. How do I tell if it needs re-potting? Are the exposed roots normal or did I err in having them turn out this way? Does anyone have a clue to what species I have?
Thank you.
I took some pictures of the plant. I posted them on Kodak gallery. The url is;
When you order something you are unfamiliar with, the company can make all kinds of claims about the plant and when it turns out to look or act different than you expected, you always blame yourself for improper care. Most palm trees store water like a camel. Waiting sometimes weeks for the next downpour to refresh them. It's hard to believe that it survived watering twice a day. That may account for the rapid growth. I also live in zone 5 and winter will bring diminished light and heat; this will affect the growth rate of anything. I have a standard palm about the same size as yours, although there is nothing exotic about it. I move it to filtered light in the summer and bring it in at fall to store it on a desk in front of a bright window. You won't need to water it but once a week, fertilize it once a month and don't put it over a register that will allow the dry heat to damage the foliage.

What places sell a lot of different types of flowers?
I'm going to start a little garden, and i want to grow lilies, roses, irises, flaxes (don't know plural form of flax) violets, lime, narcissuses, asters, etc, and more exotic types of flowers from seeds. I am going to stop buy at Home Depot but I don't think they would have ALL these plus more. Are there any places recommended?

What To Know When Deciding On Flower Bulbs For The Garden
The best aspect of flower bulbs is that with little care and minimal planting time, you get many years of great blooms and flowers. Bulbs often multiply very easily and you can find new homes for them around your yard in many new places. Iris bulbs provide great curb appeal as well. Iris bulbs for sale are available online as well as lily bulbs for sale.
Some kinds of bulbs need shade, while others want full sun. You are sure to find something to plant no matter what conditions your flower bed has. Two of my favorite bulbs are lily bulbs and iris bulbs. They are most popular due to the size of blooms and brilliant colors and variety.
Bulbs can be planted in spring or fall. Different bulbs have different planting instructions so be sure to read the guidelines before purchasing your flower bulbs. When you plant bulbs in the fall, there is extra time for them to establish themselves so they can get off to a good start when spring arrives. A couple of kinds of bulbs may not have time to bloom the first year if planted in spring, but there are still a great deal of bulbs that can be planted in spring and bloom the first year with great results.
If deer are common where you live, plant bulbs that are resistant to deer. Many different times I have planted various plants which are eaten by deer only to be disappointed when it happens. The packaging on the bulbs should indicate whether deer will eat them or not.
Bulbs should be ordered from a quality supplier as quality is very important when purchasing your plants. Lily bulbs for sale are often a favorite along with iris bulbs for sale. They need to be as healthy as possible. The good thing about ordering online is that the selection is so great. Shipping is directly to your door during the correct planting period as well.
Beautiful Flower Garden Plants Christians, I wonder if you would choose something here from the description below?
I'd like you to choose what you would be in God's garden
but please read the description so you can figure this out.
You come into God's garden. On your right is a lovely herb garden
full of all kinds of aromatic, healing herbs. There's an old, worn bench
there to sit down and savor the scent from the garden.
Straight ahead is a beautiful flower garden with border plants,
climbing plants, lilacs, roses, some wild flowers and a gazebo
in the centre with a path leading through the flower garden.
Off to your left are fruit trees of all different fruits growing
at different times.
In this picture, God is the gardener. What are you in His garden?
The more we discern about ourselves in these ways, the
more we see about ourselves.
We are probably the herb garden because we are here to comfort and encourage and, hopefully, be instruments of emotional and spiritual recovery.

Beautiful Flower Pictures
How do you grow a cheap yet beautiful flower garden?
i would love to grow a garden at this time of year but i dont want to spend alot of money on it.I dont know whether its better to buy seeds or actual flowers to plant.i think it would be nice to put a white fence around it for a sense of privacy.Tell me what you think.I would also like a good estimate for the price too.Could anyone help me?
some green house plants are inexpensive, take a look you'll find plenty
nothing beats the low cost of seeds.
hard to give you an estimate with out knowing how big your area is.
a small 4x6 ft bed would need about $20 of plant flats or $5 of seeds (this same area of garden bed could easily cost $200 depending on what plants and other add-ons you choose)
