bulbs crocus I planted fall bulbs along with blood meal-my dog started digging at them. I have several questions...?
I planted tulip, crocus and anemone bulbs. I used blood meal -thought it would be a good idea. My dod wasted no time digging up several. Im not sure if he was after the bulbs or the blood meal. So my questions? Can he get sick from either?(eatting the bulbs or bloodmeal?) I don't think he got at the tulips bulbs, the squirrels got some of those though. This took place yesterday and he seems fine, but I'm a little concerned anyway. And next question, are there certain bulbs that will attract dogs? are there some they don't like? I'm reading more about other options too, coffee grounds and egg shells? I appreciate any help anyone can offer....
I honestly dont know if blood meal is harmful to animals. This you could find out by calling your vet. Your dog was not after the bulbs, it was after the blood meal. Dogs will go wild for it. We have had problems with squirrels and chipmonks going after the bulbs that we planted. We have had good results for the last few years with used, but strained, cat litter. Depending on the size of the area, you might want to consider running a chicken wire around it to keep the dog out. Good luck.
