Flower Gardening When is the best time to start a flower garden in california?
Are there any tips on gardening for first timers, because I am a first timer, I am 12 (but my mom is going to help me), and the soil in my backyard is very dry. Any tips? Please help! Thanks!
It would really depend on the specific plants you would like in your garden. I would recommend asking a Master Gardener. These are very knowledgeable people. California has a Master Gardeners program, with a website at: http://www.mastergardeners.org/scc.html
Another option would be to call your county extension office, which can be found in your phone book. Good luck!
Flower Gardening How to know which native plants are good for a flower garden?
There are so many pretty plants and wildflowers along the roadside right now. How can I learn which ones would make a good flower garden without the neighbors thinking I have a weed bed?
Your state or one of your surrounding states that are in the same gardening zone as you are should be a good resource for you. Also, there are often smaller garden centers that specialize in native plants and they are often very happy to provide advice.
try searching with key words such as : native plants - horticulture -and then name of your state. or gardening with native plants and the name of your state.
Flower Gardening How do I remove white rocks from my soil to start a flower garden?
I decided to plant a flower garden and as I began to clear the soil, I realized that someone had previously had a garden there and used white rocks to surround the flowers, so the soil is FULL of white rocks. What is the best way to remove them? Thanks for any help!
I went thru the same thing when I moved to my current house. The area had become a haven for ants and earwigs. I used an old window screen, and with a hand shovel, threw the dirt and rocks on to the screen, sifted the dirt out and the rocks were poured into a large bucket. This way I didn't lose all the dirt. It took a few days to get it cleared out, but every year since then (over 10 years ago), I still find more rocks deeper down. Now when I'm planting the garden, I use a large spaghetti strainer as I dig.
Flower Gardening when do people start making there flower gardens?
like which month? also what are the most popular flowers? and is there a big interest in flower gardens? would someone pay someone else to make one? if there was a business that made flower gardens would people be interested?
Most people start their gardens in the spring or summer (when they want to be outside) but they can be made year round. I'd rather not list all of the most popular flowers but some include roses, wisteria, chrysanthemum, hydrangea, several bulbs, peonies, butterfly bush, snapdragon, pansies, impatiens, petunias.... There is a big interest in gardening (not so much with the economy in the state it is, but all businesses are down). People do pay other people to make flower gardens it's called landscaping.
Flower Gardening can i use dog droppings in my flower garden to get rid of rabbits?
I've heard of using dog urine to deter rabbits from a flower garden or dog hair but since I have no way of collecting my dogs urine and he doesn't shed, can I use his droppings to keep rabbits out of my flower gardens?
no,-
dog feces may harbor disease and toxins that will contaminate your garden vegetables and make tham unsafe to eat.
