Desert Rose Peach When and how do I prune my roses & peach tree?
I purchased a home this year in the high desert area of southern california. My peach tree has now lost all of its leaves and I'm not sure when or how to prune it. Also I have many rose bushes as well as shrubs. Should I prune now? and they all look pretty wild right now. Would it hurt to prune everything WAY back?? Thanks for your help!
If you get any freezing weather where you live, it's best to wait until spring to do your pruning. Don't prune anything WAY back. That'll give your plants an unnecessary setback. On the roses, don't cut more than 1/3 of a cane off unless it's crossing another cane or completely dead. For trees and shrubs, just prune any dead wood that doesn't produce leaves in the spring.
Enormous shrubs adorned with candy roses
That stretch from left to right like
The horizon
There’s a rabbit hole hallway between the monstrous bushes
That could lead to either Wonderland or dark eternity
With ceilings decorated with skeleton branches
And chandeliers of wild berry bunches
Floors of cool dirt
I crawl on bare skin until my reddish peach turns to earthy brown
Time dissolves into the soil walls to mingle with earth worms
And my imagination hovers like mist
In the never-ending tunnel
I stay there for three drawn out days and three lingering nights
Accompanied by people of sun-chariot gold skin
And by furry creatures of great sizes
And Chinese dragons
Soon I return home to the same reality I had deserted
I feed on real food and talked with real people
But can never seem to forget
That secret place.
