Can i mix wildflowers in with a tropical salmon canna in a large planter?

I potted a tropical canna in the middle of a large planter. Could I plant my wildflower butterfly garden seeds in the same pot around the canna or will it prevent the canna from growing or flowering a lot? Thanks!!
@Tashi Delek... thanks for the great idea!! You are right, they would look like weeds. Lol.

Cannas do not mind company.
I will say, however, that Cannas present a formal, architectural, and aggressive appearance wherever they are used. Most wildflowers would be overwhelmed and even look weedy in company with Canna. My suggestion would be to use bold foliage and colors with bold foliage and colors, especially things that would provide striking contrast. Things to consider: black or chartreuse potato-vine (Solanum); wildly ruffled and variegated Coleus hybrids; brilliant tangerine New Guinea Impatiens; chartreuse licorice plant (Helichrysum Petiolare)....check out books on container gardening at your public library.

Flower Warfare - Psychedelic Action Scene

Another masterpiece from the pen of the grey sun; what do you think?

The Rose of Guinevere’s Garden

She is the wild flowers of Artemis,
the red haired roe of the forest of Charlemagne,
who sows the winter and the spring
and lightens the summer wind
upon the feathers of a falcon's wing.

She is the rose of Guinevere’s Garden,
the white raven of the hills of Avalon,
who captures the seeds of light
and guides the eyes of men
upon the moon of the solstice night,

And she is the salmon of Gideon's sea,
the solemn star of the skies of Camelot,
who nurtures the wishes of a child
and whispers the song of Gabriel
upon the majestic plains of the wild!

The poem is a masterpiece but
do you have had any inspiration from Tennyson or other poets ?
Anyhow the Rose Tea of Guinevere , so old-fashioned and beautiful pink,
is well worth to be cited.

White Lavender Tips
I have a particularly beautiful female betta that I would like to breed...?

I'm very new to breeding but know all the rules and necessary requirements, such as proper conditioning and raising of the fry. I don't need lessons, because I've read many books but maybe some special tips with experienced folk would help. The female I have has a fairly white body with some lavender (pale purple) iridescence on the body but the fins are completely covered with this color. She has black eyes, and there's no noticeable particular fin type, like double tail. I would like to breed her with a pure deep red veil tail male that I have, but I'm not sure if her lavender would be masked by his red. He's not a cherry red but a deep dark red and has red eyes. I have other males, but I can tell that these two like each other a lot through their interactions through the glass. Would they be appropriate or should I choose a different male?

I would suggest you select a different male. Your female is called a non-red cambodian in IBC speak. Red is actually dominate over any other color in bettas and to cross her with a red will cover the majority of her color in the majority of the F2 fish. Further, mixing her with anything that has a non-white body will cover that white body / colored fins that make her a cambodian.

There are some clues as to the tail type that you ca make out on females. Usually, if the fish is from a typical pet shop, super pet store like SuperPet, PetSmart or from Walmart then she will be a veil tailed female. Some of these places do carry crowntails and sometimes have crowntailed females even if they don't know it. Usually a female carrying crowntail will have some short extensions on her tail and anal fin, but don't just go by the anal fin as these extensions on the anal fin can exist on any tail type, just usually a bit more so on crowntailed females. Double tail, half moon and such are usually very evident in females as they will strongly show the trait. Here's a double tailed female of reasonable quality

Though not labeled as such, I feel this is a female half moon looking at the dorsal and anal fins.

Here's a link to some examples of various types of males and females on video clips.

Hope that helps and feel free to email me with any betta or betta breeding questions

A Guide to Lavender : Lavender Stoechas

Can I dye/bleach a satin dress made of acetate, nylon & spandex?

I have a gorgeous cocktail dress I wore to a wedding a few years back. Its a satin fabric made up of 69% acetate, 26% nylon and 5% spandex. It's a light lavender/grey color. I had it dry cleaned right after the wedding but around the bottom of the armholes is a slight pink discoloration due to the deodarant reacting with the fabric. And there's a slight water/white wine splotch on another part of the dress which is only noticeable if you're really looking for it, but I definitely don't want to wear it as is.

Without dying it black, what else can I do to save this dress? Is there a certain type of bleach I can use to lighten the overall dress? Or a type of dye that I can use on this combination of fabric?

Any tips would be appreciated! I have a wedding to go to in less than 2 weeks, and the bride doesn't want anyone wearing black, and I don't want to splurge on a new dress during the recession....I have other dresses but I really wanted to see what I could do with this one. :-)

Sounds tricky. The acetate requires a disperse dye, spandex takes a fiber-reactive dye, and nylon does well with an acid dye as is used for protein fibers. Neither the acetate nor the spandex can tolerate chlorine bleach, and other fabric bleaches aren't strong enough to remove the dye. Rit Color Remover might work to lighten the fabric overall, but no guarantees.

If you aren't able to wear the dress as-is, however, you've got nothing to lose. Get a nice darkish blue or maroon dye and give it a go. Worst that could happen? You get to go shopping!
