Bulb Flowers Tulips and Narcissus? If you cut any bulb flower for a vase this year will they grow back next year??
Because i read that you are supposed to wait until the leaves die even after the flowers are already dead... why?
I think you can cut the flowers of bulbs for indoor vases and they will come back. I have been cutting the flowers of my paperwhite narcissus for the last few years and always get blooms the next year.
The theory behind waiting untill the leaves die is that everything from the plant goes back into the bulb so to regenerate for the following year.
I have neighbours that cut back their narcissus before they die back and still get blooms the next spring.

Bulb Flowers Do I have to remove the DALIA flower bulb from the garden for the winter?
I have just fallen in love with the Dalia flower. Is it possible to leave the bulb in the ground throughout the winter?
I forgot to mention that I live in Quebec Canada...absolutly freezing winters!
I live in the Uk and we have very cold Winters here. I have never removed my Dahlia bulbs and they look lovely every year. Luckily we don't have any moles here who eats them and so far the squirrels has not touched them either.
Bulb Flowers What kinds of bulb flowering plants do well in Florida?
I've been living in New York for many years and I'm not sure if the same flowering plants that I've grown here will do well in Florida. For instance I know that some such as tulips and daffodils require a cold period in order to grow. I'd like to know which varieties of both bulb based flowers and other flowers would do well in Florida and also which ones won't do well there.
Your tulips and daffodils won't do well in Florida. There are lots of flowers to choose from and a lot of the bulb flowers grow wild here. I have about 100 wild irises in my yard and I have to pull them up to keep them from taking over. I also transplanted from NY to Fl. and gardening is completely different. Plants grow fast and easy, the challenging part is keeping up with the weeding. I recommend keeping most plants in pots for 2 reasons. If there's a frost, you can just pick it up and move it inside, and secondly, because it's much easier to weed.
Go to your local garden center, Walmart, Targets, or Home Depot for a vast, affordable, selection of plants that will grow well in your area.
For a good first plant, I recommend night-blooming jasmine. It grows quickly, smells wonderful, is very hardy, and blooms almost year-round.
For something different, I just planted tobacco plants. They do have beautiful flowers and are very inexpensive.
As an expression of love and affection, few gifts are more closely associated with passion and romance than flowers. Flowers are alive, fragrant and beautiful and are wonderful representations of the feelings we have when we are in love. In many relationships, flowers are commonly given to brighten a day, celebrate an anniversary or surprise someone for their birthday. Many women love getting flowers and for men, flowers can be a great way to delight the women in their lives without stressing about what to get. But, if you are the flower buyer, you will want to know the types of flowers your loved one likes before choosing a bouquet or arrangement.
There are as many different flower choices as there are personality types. And, everyone has flower preferences that reflect their personality and interests. Below are several different "types" of people and the flower choices that reflect them. While everyone has very personal preferences in flowers, this is a good guide to give you a starting point.
Here are some flower suggestions for your loved one based on their personal style:
- Romantic. For the incurable romantic, flowers seem a custom-made gift choice. The romantic loves flowers with soft petals in pastel shades. Great choices for this group include hydrangeas, sweat peas and ranunculus. Bulb flowers such as tulips are lovely as well.
- Country. Some women prefer the great outdoors to a spa treatment and would rather be on a horse than in a limo. These women will delight in a wild flower bouquet. Choose sunflowers, daisies and poppies in bold colors.
- Elegant. Chic and understated describe these women best. They like clean lines and little embellishment. Calla lilies and orchids are refined flowers that add drama and really make a statement.
- Traditionalist. If the woman in your life would be at home in the Victorian age, she is a traditionalist. She likes the finer things in life and appreciates simple beauty. Roses make a terrific choice for a woman with traditional tastes. Depending on her tastes, pink or red are safe bets.
The timeless beauty of flowers make them a very popular choice for men looking for the perfect way to say "I love you" to the women in their lives. Take the stress out of gift giving and ask your local florist for a little help if you get confused by all the choices. With just a little thought, you will be able to choose a gift that leaves an impression that lasts much longer than the flowers themselves.
