Perennial Chinese Lantern

How do I get rid of Chinese Lantern Plants?
I am working with a very old garden that was neglected for a very long time. The chinese lanterns have taken over 1/2 of the garden. The beds are mostly dense clay need to be over hauled. I hope to roto-till the beds after I have moved the perennial I'd like to keep. Will tilling the garden spread the chinese lanterns? Thank You for all the advice
thank you Ty, i have tried pulling them over the last 2 summers, but i think their root system has had about 15 years to spread wherever they want to. This is truly an exercise in frustration
I have tried to follow the root system (while escavating a "forest" of ornamental golden rod) and can't seem to find it's original root ball. The runners seem to have about a 15-20 foot range. I was planning on tilling, then laying down the black garden cloth/bed liner then rebuilding up the beds on top. Could this possibly work?
Try rototilling your garden, then wait a couple weeks a rototill again. I have sheep sorrel which reinvents itself after the roots are broken or disturbed but after several times of tilling the soil even they have dissipated somewhat. Good luck.

use a thin – medium thickness wire and create a outline of the corners of the lamp and the rims, if its a circle than make two circles and connect them to each other, the small one on top connected to the larger on the bottom vertically with the same wire. you decide their distance apart. keep this in mind when you buy the wire, it has to bee strong enough to support itself. if your having trouble visualizing this look at your own lamps for ideas.
to cover the lantern use tissue paper or tracing paper. use clear glue, hot glue would work too, to glue the paper. if you want you can even paint over the tissue paper with a water down acrylic paint to make it more individual and personal.
be sure that if your going to put a candle in it that you either leave the bottom open or put a small piece of mat board, card board, wood, ext. ti stableize it if your going to hand this, the paper just doesn't sound safe. also be sure to leave the top of the lantern open to let air get to it and the smoke to leave.
good luck!!!
